Why does my copy of The Arctic Incident/The Eternity Code not have a code?
American editions of The Arctic Incident and The Eternity Code do not have a code running along the bottom of the pages. The reason for this omission is unclear, but it was the publisher's choice.
Will the fifth book be called "The Lost Colony"? What's it about?
Yes. There was some confusion over whether it was going to be "The Lost Colony" or "The Last Colony" but apparently the latter of these was only a typo. It’s about an eighth family of fairies who, when humans drove the fairies underground, they decided they didn’t want to go, so they lifted their island out of time. Now the spell is wearing off, and they’re coming back. They’re popping up all over the world for a few seconds. Artemis Fowl is the only one who can predict, and he’s waiting for them. For a longer synopsis and more information, visit the Lost Colony page.
How many more Artemis Fowl books will there be?
Eoin Colfer is currently planning to make the series six books long.
Is it true that the American edition of The Arctic Incident is cut? What about the other books?
Yes; all text relating to the Centaurean code was removed, along with a few sentences here and there. It probably doesn't amount to more than two pages' worth, but as these sections are inoffensive and not Europe-centric, there seems to be no reason for their removal. The other books appear to have had only minor changes, mainly cultural ones.
What are The Seventh Dwarf and The Artemis Fowl Files?
The Seventh Dwarf was a short story published to celebrate World Book Day in 2003. It was a paperback, only available in the UK and Ireland and had only one print run. The story was later included in The Artemis Fowl Files, a companion to the series, along with another short story called LEPrecon and character interviews, technological diagrams, puzzles, etc.
What is the font on the front cover of the books? Where can I get it?
It is actually composed of two fonts in the Mason family: Mason Serif Bold and Mason Serif Alt Bold. They cost $39 each. You can see previews of the fonts here and here. A similar font is one called Morpheus, which is available from Kiwi Media and asks only for a $5 donation.
Where can I download a Gnommish font?
You can now get a free Gnommish font from the official website.
The Phlegm Pot also offers free downloads of a slightly different Gnommish font.
Where can I download a Centaurean font?
The Fowl Files offers free downloads of a Centaurean font.
Is there really going to be an Artemis Fowl movie?
Miramax bought the rights to an Artemis Fowl movie before the book was published but production was delayed after a disagreement between Miramax and their parent company, Disney. This has now been resolved and the movie will be a co-production between the two companies. It is now in pre-production and has a tentative release date of 2007.
Who is the screenwriter/director/producer?
You may wish to look at the general movie information page.
Which cast members have been announced?
None. However it is possible that Holly's part at least has been cast because Eoin Colfer has said it's not Cameron Diaz or Winona Ryder, although he did reveal the lucky woman is "an American."
Is there really going to be a graphic novel?
It seems so. It should be published sometime in early 2007, either in several small parts or one large volume. It will be a version of the first Artemis Fowl novel. The artist is not yet known but Eoin Colfer has seen some preliminary sketches which were quite Disney-like, and has asked them to change the art style a little. Currently Andrew Donkin is working as the adaptor.
Where do you get your information from?
Mainly from online interviews, webchats, press articles or book sites. I do try and quote directly from sources and/or provide a link but in the case of something I consider to be fairly well known, I may not. However I have compiled a list of all the interviews and webchats that I know about. I have had the opportunity of meeting Eoin Colfer a few times and so very occasionally I will have gotten my answers straight from him.
